Traditionally, takhat used in chaupal were made similar to this example. It had an elaborately carved side rail that served as a backrest when people sat facing each other. A space was provided on the front for men to climb onto the takhat. This was one of the few remaining examples, with unique fretwork, that was recorded during fieldwork in Haryana.
