When a person sleeps on a khaat, the legs are kept towards the paandh and the head on the other side. This khaat, kept in the semi-open space of a house, was used by the eldest man to smoke hookah (smoking pipe) and rest during the day. After praying, he hung his prayer beads on one of the legs on the head side of the khaat.
