This indi was used to carry a tokri (basket) filled with cow dung from gher (cattle shed) to the terrace for making dung cakes. The knitted surface was covered over the indi while using it, to avoid the cow dung from spilling onto one’s head through the central gap. The dried dung cakes were later used as fuel in chulha and haara.
