The platform built around the chulha is called a chauntra. The chulha in the courtyard of this house was also referred to as chulha chauntra. Dried sticks from the kikar tree were used as fuel to prepare food. As the soot gets collected on the chulha and the wall around it, a layer of mud plaster is regularly applied on both the wall and the chulha.
