A chhaaj is a winnower used to separate chaff from grains like wheat and millet. After it is used, it is cleaned with a dry cloth and hung on a khuti (wall peg) generally located in the storeroom. The inner surface of the chhaaj is kept facing the wall to avoid dirt and insects settling on it.
