A mortar and pestle made from metal is known as hamam dasta. It is specifically used to crush dry spices like turmeric, chilli and coriander seeds, which is done once in a month. These spice powders are stored in containers and used in everyday food preparations. Apart from crushing spices, this hamam dasta was also used to grind smaller quantities of pulses.
