A small sized handheld fan is called a pakkhi. This simple pakkhi was made using a date leaf, the leaflets of which were woven intact on the spine. The leaflets were dyed using red and green colours to create a pattern on the fan. Such a technique of making the fan from a single leaf, made it lighter and easier to use.
